“I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” ~Psalm 104:33
Betsy Walker may travel the country performing original music at churches, conferences, women’s retreats and festivals, but those who know her will tell you that no matter who’s listening, she’s singing to the Lord.
“I really have no interest in simply playing songs for you for 45 minutes. I am very interested, however, in facilitating a discussion between you and God,” Betsy says.
Her music has been described as lyric-driven acoustic/pop and her voice has been compared to those of Nichole Nordeman, Ginny Owens, Janis Joplin and Jewel, but her sound is uniquely her own. Her discography includes “Come by Here” c.2004, “Lovely” c.2006, and “All of my Love Songs” c.2008, and while the albums sound polished, Betsy’s voice needs no engineering. Listeners of Betsy’s albums are consistently pleased to hear the same voice in concert that they hear on her albums.
Betsy’s passion for God’s glory and her heart for His Kingdom are evident in the words and notes she writes. Her music is not intended to entertain you, but to move you toward God.
“Music has the ability to move people to action,” Betsy says. “It can move people to change the way they think, feel and act. That’s the kind of music I try to write.”
Since graduating from Anderson University in 2004 with a degree in Music Business, Betsy has been writing and performing for audiences around the country. She has also served as a worship leader in two local churches and enjoys teaching private piano and voice lessons out of her home. Betsy lives in rural McCordsville, Indiana with her husband, Ben James, and their dog, Dude. Ben is a gifted musician in his own right and often joins Betsy in concert. (Dude has not yet developed his musical abilities, but Ben and Betsy are hopeful that one day he will join the family band.)
With a new album set to release in 2010, longtime Betsy Walker fans will notice a more vertical feel with the new project. While the album will maintain her signature singer/songwriter sound, it will also include several worship songs and an overall more worshipful feel.
Betsy says, “The older I get, the less I care about what I think, and the more I care about what God thinks”.
